Strategy for the Week

When you shop on DealDash.com, what is your “Strategy of the Week?” Do you have one?

I think it’s a good idea to choose a different “Strategy for the Week” for several reasons. I read a definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. In other words, if one thing does not work, it only makes sense to change what we are doing.

Therefore, if we are not winning, we might need to change something, anything, and see if that works better. It could be just a minor change that makes a difference. For example, here is a list of different things we could try to change the way we bid:

  • If we always place the bulk of our bids at the beginning of every auction, we might want to wait until just before an auction hits the “No New Bidders” mark and place the bulk of our bids then, instead.
  • We could place a few bids at the beginning of every auction, and then place the bulk of our bids when the selling price gets close to the average selling price it usually closes at.
  • We could try placing an odd number of bids. Instead of 25, 50, 100 or 200 bids, perhaps we should try placing an odd number of bids like 27, 53, 107, or 231.
  • Look for patterns. For instance, I noticed that shoppers from two states consistently win, so I no longer bid in the same auctions where players from those two states show up. It’s up to you to figure out what those two states are.
  • Perhaps our bids would last longer and we might win more auctions if we only bid at the beginning of every auction. This approach can pay off in dividends. Why? For one thing, if we only bid in the beginning of every auction and win, we will be guaranteed to always win with a very low selling price. Therefore, we would not only be using fewer bids, but we would also be paying less for the auctions we win.

By choosing a different “Strategy for the Week,” we might even surprise ourselves how well it works.

Win With BIN

Do yourself a favor — Learn how to win by using Buy It Now on DealDash.com.

What do I mean by that? Let me give you an example: A $10 gift card was listed today and it’s already up to nearly $27 and the auction is still running strong. The first question is to ask “why”? Why would anyone continue to bid on a $10 gift card after it has already hit the $10 or more selling price?

Once an auction reaches its Buy It Now price, the only way shoppers can win is to BIN. If we buy-it-now at that point, we can still get the card, plus we will get all our bids back, too. The worst thing that can happen is for someone to “win” it after the selling price is guaranteed to amount to more than the value of the auction product.

This already happened to the previous “winner,” who ended up paying the selling price of $32.77, plus the cost of 180 bids that were used. In other words, this “winner,” actually paid a total of $68.77 for this $10 gift card.  Again, I have to ask: why?

Didn’t the “winner” stop to think about the fact that he or she could have gotten six $10 gift cards for $68.77 with money left over?

The above example shows a complete lack of planning on the shopper’s part. Therefore, the next time this happens, why not do yourself a favor and “win by using BIN.” You’ll be glad you did!

Legendary Customer Service

Most customers could list several different reasons why they love to shop on DealDash.com.

Recently, I was reminded of one of those reasons: amazing, excellent, superb customer service. In a Facebook comment, somebody described DealDash customer service as “legendary.” I loved how perfectly the term “legendary” describes the kind of service DealDash provides.

For example: I seldom complain about anything I win on DealDash, but I was disappointed when I won a high-quality leather purse that did not include a shoulder strap. I love shoulder straps on purses because it’s a big help when I’m out and about. Shoulder straps make it possible for me to throw my purse over my shoulders so I can free-up my hands to do other things, like carry packages. This is especially important during the Christmas shopping season. I’m sure most women would agree.

It was difficult for me to believe that such a high-quality leather purse did not come with a shoulder strap, so I contacted a customer service representative to question whether it was supposed to have one but somebody might have forgotten to put it inside the purse. I received an immediate response to my question — No, unfortunately, the purse does not come with a shoulder strap, but it probably should.

My question was answered and I assumed that would be the end of it.  Because the purse had no shoulder strap, it sat in my closet unused for a long time. To my surprise and delight, however, that was not the end of it. The DealDash customer service representative I spoke with followed up and soon located a shoulder strap for me that I could attach to the purse.

Now that’s what I would call “legendary” customer service.

What to Look for, Where to Begin

Do you have any idea what to look for or where to begin when shopping on DealDash.com?

When I first started shopping on DealDash in 2012, I had so much fun I didn’t want to stop long enough to learn how to become a smart shopper.

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of winning some awesome products at bargain prices. But if we want to be happy shoppers, it’s important to know what we’re doing and why.

Below is a list of what smart and happy shoppers do:

  1. Look at the products and make a list of the ones we want to win or BIN (Buy-It-Now).
  2. Look at the “Winner’s List” to see if any of the auction items we want to win have been going for bargain prices. If so, start bidding on those items first.
  3. Place your bids in the automated bidder, BidBuddy.
  4. Look at the “Winner’s List” and write down all the screen names of customers who won large bid packs. If you see those names appear in your auction, stop bidding and instead place your bids on the same item the next time it is listed.
  5. Open the auction and look at the list of previous winners. Do the math to figure out how many bids it took for most of them to win. By doing that, we will have a pretty good idea how many bids we need to win the auction, too.
  6. When figuring out our DealDash budget, remember to include the selling cost of the auction, plus the cost of the number of bids we use.

DealDash wants happy customers because happy customers always come back for more. Happy shopping everyone!
